How do I set the system time?
« on: May 22, 2006, 03:53:52 PM »
Hi,

In shell, how do I display the current system time?  Also, how do I edit the system time?

Thanks

Setting Your System Time
« Reply #1 on: January 17, 2007, 11:58:38 AM »
* Open this URL in a Java-enabled web browser (like Firefox).
       http://www.time.gov
    * Run the date command to set the date to the time that is displayed in the browser:

Code: [Select]
date -s "11/17/2007 09:36:30"
to set the time to 09:36:30 on 01/17/2007. Obviously set the command to a slightly future time, wait for time.gov to catch up, then press Enter.
Now it\'s time to fix your hardware clock.  Log in as root
# /sbin/hwclock -r
# /sbin/hwclock --adjust
# /sbin/hwclock --systohc

I am Using SimplyMepis, so the following is for KDE users.  Gnomers may be slightly different:

   * Right click on your clock in the taskbar (usually lower right of the screen) and select "Show timezone" / "Local timezone".
