Getting started with Linux
« Reply #1 on: December 28, 2005, 05:18:26 PM »
First of all, welcome to the forums. I am glad to see you choose Linux. As for your question, GNU/Linux is a great platform and is based on open-source (freeware) software. To get started you will need:
1) A spare computer to install the operating system onto (alternatively multi-boot or windows embedded).

2) Choose a distro and download it (for example choose Debian and download it + info here)
3) Burn the ISO to a CD
4) Boot from CD to install
3) For help, use our forums here and help files contained therein
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress :)
