Macromedia Flash Player install help
« Reply #1 on: September 05, 2005, 10:27:18 PM »
Here are the instructions for installing the Flash Player for Linux from the Macromedia web site.  It would be helpful if you told us where exactly in the installation process you are having the problem and exactly the details about it.  That way we can help you to the next step :)

Quote
Installation Instructions
1. Click the "Download Now" button. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the Installer.

2. Save the Installer to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.

3. Unpackage the file. A directory called install_flash_player_7_linux will be created.

4. Navigate to this directory and from the command line type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer (Note: this can only be run from the command line). The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).

5. Once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your Mozilla browser. To verify, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.

Macromedia Flash Player install help
« Reply #2 on: September 06, 2005, 09:11:34 AM »
Very good information... one of the reasons I do not switch (yet) 100% to Linux is that there are so few tools yet to be made by the big boys which assist me in my web design (Macromedia Dreamweaver, Photoshop, etc...). A Flash player is a step in the right direction hopefully.

I let it download to my desktop...I go to & open  "Run Command" type in the dialoge box,,,    . /flashplayer-installer  ,click run, next window says cannot run the specified command. I\'m running Linux SuSe 9.0 pro 64 for AMD. I tried to install in "root" all that happened was the box disappeared & i still dont know if it installed. I opened a web page i made & it still ask for a flashplaer so i know its not installed.
Thx in Advance

Macromedia Flash Player install help
« Reply #5 on: September 07, 2005, 10:28:03 AM »
OK, so I assume you properly performed steps 1 through 3.  In step 4 it says:
Quote
4. Navigate to this directory and from the command line type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer (Note: this can only be run from the command line). The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).

Are you sure you are navigating the proper directory?
Maybe you need to either enter the proper directory from the command line like for example if your desktop folder is at /home/desktop then run the command:
Code: [Select]
cd /home/desktop/install_flash_player_7_linux
then run the command
Code: [Select]
./flashplayer-installer

OR from any diectory you can run the command as a full path like this:
Code: [Select]
/home/desktop/install_flash_player_7_linux/./flashplayer-installer
