Networking Help
« on: June 08, 2006, 12:19:30 PM »
How exactly would a linux network and a windows 2000 server network communicate and is it worth it to install a linux network on a pre-existing windows 2000 server network. Also, what programs and hardware do you think would work best for this network mix. I am trying to get it set up so that the network will still be able to share files and printers. Thanks for the help.

Communicate between Windows and Linux networks

It may be worth it depending on your specific needs in your case. I recommend Samba for adding compatibility between network platforms.

Per their web site:

Samba is an Open Source/Free Software suite that has, since 1992, provided file and print services to all manner of SMB/CIFS clients, including the numerous versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Samba is freely available under the GNU General Public License.
