No suitable plugins were found. Unknown plugin (audio/x-wav)

I am using Firefox (Bon Echo) on SimplyMepis Linux.  For web pages with embedded .wav, there is the top message that appears that states,

Additional plugins are required to display all the medai on this page
and when I click on the button "Install Missing Plugins ..." I get the message

  Unknown Plugin (audio/x-wav)

I recall that in Windows OS, you can just download and install Quicktime (yuck!) and it satisfies the requirement, however, Quicktime for Linux is unavailable per This Page

Is there something else I can use to hear teh WAV sounds?
