Routing issue on redhat - Help needed !!!
« on: June 19, 2006, 03:08:20 AM »
I have installed a redhat linus a system with two network cards, so that the linus box will act a router & firewall for my internet connection.

One of the cards is connected to my internet modem while the other card is connected to my PC.

From my PC I can successfully ping the two cards on the linus box, but whenever I ping the internet modem it will be timing out.

Surprisingly, from the Linus box I can successfully ping my PC and the internet modem. Please how can I get my PC to communicate with the Internet modem via the linus?

Thank you

Yes, just because they are noticing each other does not mean it is configured properly.  I can try to assist you with this.  Please state what program in RedHat you are using to configure your network and what the internal addresses are for each device.

I logon using the GUI in redhat 10.0 and then click System Settings --> Network Device Configuration.

I also connect to the Linus box via Webmin, using internet explorer. Then go the Network Configuration option to configure the network devices.

The IP addresses of the devices are as stated below:

eth0 ==> 192.168.0.1  255.255.255.0  ===> Connected to Internal LAN
eth1 ==> 10.254.118.1 255.255.255.0  ===> Connected to External Internet Modem

Thanks

192.168.0.1 seems normal, but where did you get the other IP address from?

Sorry, the other device interface is assigned IP address - 10.254.118.2 and is connected to the WAN Modem. The WAN Modem serves as the gateway to the internet and has IP address of 10.254.118.1

I think the problem is as a result of IP table & IP Masqurading configuration which I have not carried out yet.

I have downloaded a script for firewalling & IP Masqurading but I do not know how to make it run automatically at startup. Can you help me on this? I am using RedHat.
