Is Google is Anti-Bush?
« on: August 24, 2006, 05:12:55 PM »
Go to the google results page for the term "failure" and in the top 5 you have inorganic listings that were placed there by Google.  For example:

- http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html - An apparent suggestion that our President is indeed a failure.

- http://www.michaelmoore.com/ - A true anti-Bu****e through and through.

Both of these pages have do not have the keyword "failure" ANYWHERE in the source code or text.  What does this say about the political stance of Google?  Kinda makes you wonder doesn\'t it?

I would like to think a little more logically about this and say that there is something in Google\'s algorithm that pegs certain sites with certain keywords...

ie. George Bush\'s failure as president.
ie. Michael Moore\'s biography on the failure of [whatever documentary he\'s doing at the time]

Is that why SEO using a certain reference point (city) works so well. Check out the PR for sites like CherryOne and look at the META tags and the Image Tags and then look at the sweet (no pun intended) PR7 that this site has. ANYONE tell me they have even ever heard of this company.

Instead they align themselves exclusively with the keywords Chicago Website [design/company/etc...].

Traffic for CherryOne.com
Avg. Review for cherryone.com:
Traffic Rank for : No Data
Source: Alexa

As we learn more and more and find more and more anomalies with Google\'s algorithm, the more we will be better suited to SEO our own site\'s properly for it.

Actually, this might not be an anomaly, I checked MSN and Yahoo for the same term and although they are not the exact same results, the Bush Bio seems to appear in the top 10 or 15 for them too (as well as Carter).  Does this mean that search engines (not just Google) have their own logic?

Google Bombing

Well, sort of.  This is known as "Google Bombing"

Quote from: Wikipedia
A Google bomb is Internet slang for a certain kind of attempt to influence the ranking of a given page in results returned by the Google search engine, often with humorous or political intentions.[1] Because of the way that Google\'s algorithm works, a page will be ranked higher if the sites that link to that page use consistent anchor text.  ...

...In addition, all major search engines make use of link analysis and thus can be impacted: a search for "miserable failure" or "failure" on September 29, 2006 brought up the official George W. Bush biography number one on Google, Yahoo! and MSN and number two on Ask.com. On June 2, 2005, Yooter reported that George Bush is now ranked first for the keyword \'miserable\', \'failure\' and \'miserable failure\' in both Google and Yahoo! (This page is currently the 4th when searching for \'miserable failure.\') And on September 16, 2005, Marissa Mayer wrote on Google Blog about the practice of Google bombing and the word "failure." (See Google\'s response below). Other large political figures have been targeted for Google bombs: on January 6, 2006, Yooter reported that Tony Blair is now indexed in the U.S. and UK versions of Google for the keyword \'liar\'.
