Updating Kernel in CentOS
« on: August 10, 2005, 09:25:33 PM »
Alright, so I run a Counterstrike: Source gaming server and it is right now on a CentOS 3.5 box, which has the 2.4 kernel. This is my -test- box so if I break it... big deal it doesn\'t matter.
I was going to go with a full CentOS 4.0 reinstall, but I havn\'t had the box that long and I have spent a long time configuring it.
So my plan was to go with CentOS 3.5 and just upgrade the Kernel to 2.6. Now I havn\'t actually done a Kernel upgrade before (this box is gui-less), so if anybody has any good reading or tutorials to post then please do! I figured I\'ll need to some day know how to update the Kernel, why not learn now.

Thanks,
-Alex

Use YUM to Upgrade Kernel

If it were me, I would try using Yum to upgrade the kernel.  I believe it supports CentOS.  Definately try using a test box too, I agree :)
