New board user here. Just out surfing and found your board. I have been using GNU/Linux as my primary OS since 1998. I am a windoze developer by trade, but use GNU/Linux at home for almost everything. My laptop has XplodingPile for those contract jobs where I must use windoze tools.
I\'ve used a multitude of distros over the years: started with the first version of Mandrake, used RH, Suse, Slackware, Xandros, Fedora, Mepis, Yoper, CRUX, Ubuntu, Debian, and currently using a stage 2 Gentoo install. I permanently switched to Gentoo close to a year ago, and am now a devoted source-distro guy.
I have also used a multitude of DE\'s/WM\'s over the years: started with Windowmaker, used Enlightenment, Fluxbox, Gnome (1.4 to current), Blackbox, Openbox, KDE (briefly), Xfce4, IceWM, Hackedbox, and currently using an Openbox 3.2 desktop with fbpanel. I am a huge minimalist WM fan, but run Gnome 2.10 for Gnome application testing I do sometimes. My everyday workspace is the Openbox setup I mentioned.
I am an avid M$ hater, but won\'t start any flame wars over it. Suffice it to say I think they are the Borg, and I will never give them any $ directly, ever again.
I lecture part time at our local community college on software development models: Free/Open source (FOSS), and proprietary. I illustrate both models and try to give the students a wider perspective than the evil borg entity has given them over the years.
I am also a graduate student, and staff column writer for a web hosting magazine, so I am extremely busy most of the time. My real passion is this - working in GNU/Linux, and helping people, learning, tweaking my system, breaking things and fixing them. Always something new to learn from others, always something to share.
