Hello Forum!

I have come here because I am brand new to this Linux Thing.  I have wanted for a long time to use my old Windows 95 Chembook to learn Linux ever since I found out that you really cannot do much of anything with WIndows 95 anymore.  But now that work has required me to learn more about Linux I have brought my old laptop to work and soon I will jump in.

I have already made some posts about DEBIAN.  And so my adventure begins!

:)

Linux is like a car. The engines are all different and the gauges inside are in different spots but we can all drive. Linux with a GUI (graphical user interface) takes almost no time to get up to speed for things that you do everyday. In fact it is EASIER than Windoze. It comes with a full-featured mail program, full-featured Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Database programs already installed and ready to do.

I was always under the impression you never could. Nor with 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista (unless you have a few grand to drop on any system over a year old!)/Server 2000/Server 2003/Server 2007... you get the point here.

It should not be a requirement, it should be a choice! Pay $300 for new operating system and then a few thousand on a system that will actually run it and then have problems with compatibility from the same companies\' products or use Linux... for free.

brought my old laptop to work

Beauty of Linux... it will run on a 486 if need-be. No 1GIG RAM requirement here!

Trust us... the sooner the better!

Good luck to you and we are here to answer any of your questions... M$... $30/call?

Look at what M$ has done recently... got heavily into the CONSOLE gaming community and bought a LINUX company... that has to tell you something about the confidence they have in their own operating system.
