DSL-Embedded - Linux on Windows
« on: August 06, 2005, 10:07:06 PM »
This is an awesome distro of linux that runs on windows. No, not a dual-boot but actually runs as a window program under Windows operating system. It is called Damn Small Linux (AKA- DSL).

The version that runs under Windows is DSL-Embedded. If you have windows xp or whatever and have a decent system (15.Ghz processor and 512+ MB RAM) there is no reason not to try this out! See my personal screenshot here.

That is DAMN cool. Does DSL require repartitioning of the hard drive or anything like that or does it just run like a Linux emulator?

Try DSL-Embedded
« Reply #5 on: August 18, 2005, 09:06:00 PM »
Well, it is like running two OS\'s simultaneously, so it is considerablly CPU intensive.  You might get some lag on a system less than 1GHz processing frequency, and more RAM helps too.  It runs great on my office PC and it is an AMD Sempron 2800 with 740MB DDR RAM.  But no matter what you have, give DSL_Embedded a try and let us know how it goes.

DSL-Embedded - Linux on Windows
« Reply #7 on: October 09, 2005, 08:45:30 PM »
OK everyone. A couple things about DSL.

#1. If you are going to run it in Windows make sure you download the EMBEDDED version of the program. The latest version is 5.1

#2. My keyboard (Microsoft Wireless) was not found by DSL so I have not been able to play with it to the extent that I would like to...

If anyone out there knows of another program like this (a Linux distro that runs in Windows) please message me.

Thanks

Zelo

The dsl-embedded version 2.0 is out now.  You might want to give that a try.
