Changing forum categories
« on: January 11, 2006, 02:27:08 PM »
I have been thinking about making some changes to forum categories.  I think the way they are now is a bit confusing.  For example, we invite people to ask questions in most of the forums, yet we have a q&a forum.  I am afraid that if people are unsure where to post something, they may just end up not posting (especially new visitors).  So here is my proposed categorization:

OLD CATEGORIES:
-Linux Operating System
-Linux Server
-Geek Lounge

PROPOSED CATEGORIES
-Linux Support
-Linux Discussions
-Geek Lounge

(inside there may be small tweaks to sub-categories, but this lets people know that there is an entire category of forums for Support/Q&A)
(the framework for articles and news is still in the air.  mainly we are waiting for mods to be ported to ver3.5 for these)

Any comments?

I definately think there needs to be a "discussions" area and an area where people can talk about thinks not DIRECTLY affecting Linux or the Linux operating system.

A lot of message boards I go to talk about things that are not directly in-line with what the core of the boards are about, but are a great place for people to give their ideas on a wide variety of subjects.

I think on Linuxboards.com we have seen that with the gas prices.

I agree that Discussions is a great topic of interest to open up (when the **** is Macromedia/Adobe going to come out with a 64-bit Flash Player!!!).

The changes in my mind are a great idea and you may even find you want to add more than what you already have, but this is a great start to an ever-growing board.

Kudos

OK, categories have been changed.  If you see a thread in "discussions" that belongs under "support" (or vice versa) feel free to make the move without redirect.
