About RedHat Linux
« on: October 01, 2005, 01:21:52 PM »
Now called RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), this distro corners the corporate market. Sold commercially by subscription, RHEL comes in two server versions (AS and ES) and two desktop versions (WS and Desktop).

So why pay for Open Source software?
Well, there has developed a demand for a commercial Linux product that can be distributed by hardware vendors and distributed by corporations. The moneyflow ensures a standard and stable solution for long-term implementation, application integration, security, bugfixes, documentation, upgrading, and support for the product. Specific benifits include acess to the RedHat Network (for installs and upgrades) and Multiple support avenues with unlimited incidents.

Redhat also sponsors the Fedora Project which maintains a free, open source version of the Linux Operating System. This is an excellent non-enterprise operating system. Although not officially supported by RedHat, they use it as a proving-ground for their RHEL product.
Free download of Redhat Linux 9 or Fedora.

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. -- Linux learns.
