Root inode is not a directory. Clear<y>?
« on: January 10, 2007, 08:47:08 PM »
I am trying to recover some damaged files and using fsck utility.  Here\'s what I get:

Code: [Select]
/dev/hda5 contains a filesystem with errors check forced.
Pass 1:  Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Root inode is not a directory.  Clear ?

What exactly is going on?

It means things are pretty well munched on your filesystem.  It is just trying to clean up what it can.  You might want to try answering no to this and see how it goes from there.  This link may be helpful for you
