About Ubuntu Linux
« on: October 02, 2005, 09:12:16 PM »
Ubuntu GNU/Linux is a user-friendly, multi-lingual distro that vows to remain free open-source software. It is supported by their community (of which anyone is encouraged to join) via web forums, mailing lists and IRC channels. They offer CD Install ISOs as well as Bootable Live CDs and they will even ship a copy on CD to you absolutely free on their program called "Shipit"!

[indent]More about Ubuntu from ubuntu.com:

"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". Ubuntu also means "I am what I am because of who we all are". The Ubuntu Linux distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.

The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit.

The Ubuntu team releases a fresh Ubuntu every six months. It includes the latest kernel, X, Gnome and other key applications, and is supported with security updates for 18 months. The first public release of Ubuntu was the Ubuntu 4.10 Preview (codenamed "the Warty Warthog", or just "Warty"). You can download the CD and burn it yourself or have us ship you a CD.

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. -- Linux learns.
