I like live cd\'s for trying out Linux distros.  I am going to give Ubuntu a try and review it.

Ubuntu is actually the only distro with which I have ever been able to get everything on my laptop working - except the wireless card, but it\'s windoze only. I tried in vain to get ndiswrapper to work, but no go. Anyway, it\'s a great distro and being a Debian base, with apt-get for package management is a real plus.

Ubuntu is nice.  I have several Linux distros but Ubuntu is the only one I have on my hard drives.  But the Ubuntu Live CD is slow enough to make tectonic plate movement and continental drift look fast by comparison.  Knoppix and SimplyMepis Live CDs are much, much faster.  On the plus side, however, the number of applications available for Ubuntu via synaptic seems much larger than on the aforementioned distros.   And using it is (mostly) very intuitive. Certainly the install is very intuitive and easy.

I tried Ubuntu and I wasn\'t really impressed.  Yeh, the installer was really easy and it detects a lot of hardware, but overall it didn\'t float my boat.  I guess maybe it is because I come from a server background and prefer command line for a lot of functions.  I found that having to SU every command was really annoying.
