PHPNuke & Spam
« on: February 10, 2005, 09:17:51 PM »
I had my first dealing with a spammer a couple days ago. One of the sites on my server "WAS" running an older version of PHPNuke. After getting emails and logs from the datacenter the server is in I seen they was relaying through the webmail system of phpnuke with an exploit.
Well I have now terminated the account the old phpnuke is and did some more tweaking in the server to now allow such email transactions to happen anymore.
Why am I saying all this?

Im saying this in a nice way. Dont learn the hard way and end up getting blacklisted. Its hell getting off of it! :(

Yes, anytime you suspect foul play, research right away.  It will take a lot of time but is worth it.  You do not want to get your server blacklisted on DNSBLs.  Nuke is great but if you use it, yes, keep it updetad.  Nobody will tap you on the shoulder and remind you to go to the nuke support site periodically and check for updates, but it is REALLY NEEDED!

Speaking of SPAM and Nuke, our company is re-developing spamtalk.net onto the postnuke engine.  What do you think of it?
