I have found ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) to be the best software based software out there. Although a little pricy at $70/year for one computer, it might be better for you if you have more than one computer to get a hardware firewall such as a good router.

APF Firewall

For my servers, I go for APF firewall all the way.  It is freeware security that works with IP tables to block unwanted traffic.  Has configurable settings and can choose protection for ingress, egress, or both.

Any other good ones out there?

you could stick gibraltar live cd on a separate box with 2 nics
