January 19th.
Servers start crawling to a halt. DOS attacks are running rampid throughout the world. This happens everyday, but why today?
It won\'t stop; it doesn\'t end. They are coming from everywhere, aaahhhh!
Then I remember.
January 19, 1986 -- a day that will go down in black hacking history. The date of the first computer virus - Brain. Quite a harmless virus by today\'s standards. A boot sector virus spread through the computing world via floppy disks, things we don\'t even see today (floppy discs or boot sector viruses).
Nevertheless, the 19th of every year we see a substantial increase in viruses running trough our networks and through the internet, and being the 20th anniversary I am frankly suprised at how little fanfare the occasion actually brought to the IT community.
Boot Sector viruses for the most part ended in 1995 and network viruses have become all the rage. It is reported the next batch of viruses are going to involve WLANs. Technology evolving...
